Synopsis:
"He was my darkness and I was his light. We couldn't exist without each other."
For me, life was simple. I went to school and studied. I spent time with my friends and stayed out of trouble. I didn't drink or swear and I only dated gentlemen. I was the typical good girl with a bright future. My world seemed perfect.
But that was about to change.
Ryder Delaney was the one imperfection in my life. He was the bad boy, the black sheep, the one your mother always warned you about. He had only one hard-and-fast rule - Don't fall in love.
But some rules were meant to be broken.
We were best friends, inseparable since childhood despite our differences. I knew the real man hiding behind the tattoos and bad attitude. He knew all my secrets and dreams. But he didn't know there was one thing I wanted and couldn't have...him.
But sometimes Fate has a way of intervening. Soon our world collapsed. War erupted. Darkness prevailed. Alone and on the run, our only goal was to survive and to ignore the feelings we had for each other. But love is powerful...
and so is the darkness.
About the Author
Paige Weaver’s first passion has always been reading. Many hours were spent getting lost in love stories and adventures. That turned into a love for writing at a young age. She wrote her first book when she was a teenager and hasn’t stopped since. Thanks to pressure from family and friends, she finally decided to take the leap and self-publish. Her first book ‘Promise Me Darkness’ became a New York Times and USA Today Best Seller within a month after being released.
A native Texan who still resides in the town where she was born, Paige lives with her husband and two children. When she's not writing or reading, you can find her chasing her kids around and living her very own happily ever-after story.

Review:
Yes, another
book in which a girl is in love with a bad boy and guess what, they are best
friends and knew since childhood. Yes, what more cliché can be. But the writing
style, the characters and the war starting like a summer rain, like boom, here
and now, make the book a good one and I really liked it.
I liked that
even Maddie is in love with Ryder and he knows it, she’s not acting like a
daydreamer and loses her head when he’s around, or too much close. Or maybe
she’s trying. I won’t talk about their relationship or how Ryder now is cute
and fluffy and a second after he’s a jerk. It bothered me a little, like Maddie
thought, that he’s so hesitant. I mean is annoying to see the boy that you love
kissing you and then start acting like a stupid or saying something that make
you slap him. But they change, both, and we see that after the war started,
when they are on a „journey”, bit by bit they become more mature, not so
egoist, and then and after some more things happening. So you’ll see with your
eyes, if you read the book.
About the
journey. I really like the books that speak about war or that show the
not-so-sweet-and-nice face of humanity, and this one is one of them. The people can change so much,
in good or bad. And like in reality when something that big happen the
gouverment don’t do anything. And the people need to help themselves and sleep
with the gun under the pillow if they want to be alive, they need to stole for
eating and hide like animals. The book show all this big and worse thing, the
fighting to survire, the people decay, the pain, the betrayal, the tears, but
sometimes little pieces of happiness, laughing, kisses and peaceful moment. Is
like a montagne russe.
Another thing
that I liked is the friendships, between Eva and Maddie or between Maddie and
Ryder. Cause even Ryder and Maddie feels something, they are friends, they share
this bond, and help each other and listen, even with a smile on a face and arms
around or with cold glare. I liked that somehow this two feelings stay
different and when they fell in love, the friendship does not dissapear. I mean
when thet were having a fight and one needed help the other was not turing
around like „i don’t care about you”, even they were arguing. It was nice to
see how the characters acted in kind of situation, what was more important, to
be right or to help and be, both, fine.
And at the and
of the book, like if wasn’t enough bad things for our friends something happen
to Eva. And I want the next book, now. I don’t like staying here and making
plans in my head, like „what would happen if..” or „what whould he/she says” or
things like that. And somehow, even I don’t like books with happy endings and
sugar kissing and glitter all around I think and I wish that this series(?)
will end like that, I think that after what happened and what will going to
happen they need a break.
So, if you like
contemporary books, with strong characters, love, friendship, a little bit of
drama, war, fights and other stuff like that read this one. It worth it.
5/5
